Following Burberry, Montblanc and Tag Heuer, it is Cartier's turn to launch its e-commerce site in China, and it chose Singles' Day to do it, specifically at 11:00, a day that has become synonymous with record online sales.

The launch was announced via the WeChat mobile app, with a promise of special prices for the occasion. However, the public's reception wasn't as enthusiastic as expected. Problems connecting to the site, multiple passwords, pages in English and confusion about the prices were quickly feeding the country's social media apps.

It would seem that the launch was too hurried, coming after the LVMH group officially announced the departure of Cartier's CEO, Stanislas de Quercize, on 31 December. Having held the position since 2012, he will be replaced by Cyrille Vigneron, the current president of LVMH Japan.
