CAIT, which represents over seven crore traders, continued its nationwide protests on Wednesday with one of its largest-scale movements yet. The organisation hopes to galvanise traders to boycott Flipkart and Amazon and encourage the Central Government to investigate the businesses for what it alleges are foreign direct investment regulation violations in their business practices.

Sharing snapshots of its protest on Facebook, CAIT reported that its secretary general Praveen Khandelwal led its traders’ protest in New Delhi. Protestors held signs telling Flipkart and Amazon to “go back”.

Along with asking for a government investigation into Amazon and Flipkart, CAIT has requested that the government create regulations to cover retail discounts both online and offline. CAIT has accused e-commerce businesses of colluding with banks and believes that the government should also investigate cash-back offers on credit cards in offline business. The organisation argues that Indian traders are being negatively impacted by foreign hegemony in Indian online business.
