The GJEPC’s chairman Pramod Kumar Agrawal has joined Jonathan Kendall of the De Beers Group as one of CIBJO’s two new vice presidents. The organisation’s third vice president, Roland Naftule, will also continue in his role as long-serving vice president, the organisation decided at its recent congress, the GJEPC reported on its website. The congress also confirmed Gaetano Cavalieri for another two-year term in office as president of CIBJO.

The annual CIBJO congress was held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Manama, Bahrain, from November 18 to 20 and steering committee meetings took place on November 16 and 17. The event, which was hosted by the Bahrain Institute for Pearls and Gemstones, was attended by around 220 participants of which around 150 were international.

The congress also saw the creation of three new committees, one for technology in the jewellery industry, one for fund raising for the organisation, and one for lab-grown diamonds. The committee for technology will focus on developing understanding on disruptive technology such as artificial intelligence that is likely to drive change in the jewellery industry in the coming years.
