CAIT to launch new nationwide agitation from March 5

The Confederation for All India Traders will hold a fresh nationwide agitation against government goods and service tax regulations from March 5 to April 5.

CAIT remains bullish in its GST stance - Alto Nivel

“The campaign will begin from March 5 and continue till April 5 against the GST amendments and malpractices of foreign e-commerce companies,” CAIT said in a statement.

CAIT held a nationwide ‘Bharat Vyapar Bandh’ on February 26 to protest what it claims are harmful and overly complex GST regulations. Around eight crore traders and one crore transport workers of the All India Transport Welfare Association participated in the action along with “lacs of tax professionals," CAIT announced on its Facebook page.

CAIT’s slogan for the agitation was, “simplify GST, stop tax terrorism." However, the Press Trust of India described the response to the action as “lukewarm”.

CAIT plans to continue its agitation until its GST and foreign e-commerce companies’ alleged malpractices complaints are addressed by the central government.

“At present, traders across the country are badly plagued by the provisions of GST and the constant arbitrariness of foreign companies in e-commerce and now, the traders are either forced to resolve these issues or shut their business,” said CAIT.
