The CAIT aims to educate 70 million traders in India and get them up to speed with the latest digital technology, as reported by TNN. In order to achieve this, the organisation has invited online businesses to partner with it to share knowledge. The CAIT hopes that such training would empower traders as online shopping continues to grow in India.

“There is a considerable change in consumer behaviour and with customers ranging from the age group of 18 years to 40 years preferring online shopping,” said the CAIT’s national president, BC Bhartia. “Realising this important aspect, the CAIT has decided to bring small traders across the country on the digital platform.” Bhartia made his address in Pune where the CAIT has 1,200 members.

The CAIT’s Secretary General, Praveen Khandelwal, also commented that e-commerce is a promising market that will continue to grow. The CAIT has already partnered with MasterCard to launch a national campaign that encourages traders to adopt digital payment capabilities. To date, around five lakh traders have started receiving digital payments thanks to the campaign, according to Khandelwal.
