British jewellery designer Stephen Webster will attend the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council’s Artisan Awards on February 12 in Mumbai, which will announce its 2020 winning jewellers.
Stephen Webster will preside over the Artisan Awards 2020 grand awards distribution ceremony on Wednesday in Mumbai, the GJEPC announced on its website. The Artisan Awards shortlisted 27 jewellery pieces from 625 sketch entries in three categories at its first jury round in November, 2019. For the final round, the jury has judged the entries in its final round and the winners will receive cash prizes and industry internships.
“It has been remarkable to see the incredible designs that were shortlisted, come to life in their physical make,” the GJEPC’s vice chairman Colin Shah said in a statement, the GJEPC reported.
“Through this platform, we have tapped talent that not only has the vision to create designs that push the boundaries of creativity, but also imbibe factors that give jewellery a 360-degree touch to be accessible to the end user.”
“It has been a great process, right from receiving entries, through to selection and manufacturing,” said Milan Chokshi, convener for the GJEPC’s Promotions, Marketing, and Business Development Sub-Committee. “The designs have been absolutely promising and have given an insight into the design capabilities of the generation. The young talent of the country has displayed a knack of decoding the DNA of their own personal individuality through ideas that are one-of-a-kind. It’s been especially heartening to see that the designing and interpretation of the concepts has been non-linear and the creators have used a variety of raw materials, metals and gemstones.”
