Brands join forces to plan Wellness Retailers Association
Feb 26, 2021
Beauty care brands including Kaya Limited, Lakme, and BBlunt are coming together to create a Wellness Retailers Association to aid pandemic recovery and boost the industry.
“We are almost at the final stage of setting up a wellness retailers association,”said skin clinic Kaya Limited’s CEO Rajiv Nair at the recent Retail Leadership Summit 2021, ET Bureau reported.
“The pandemic actually helped us understand that collaboration is key. We collaborated [rather] than be competitors.”
As beauty care businesses felt the same challenges during the pandemic, the idea is to create a support system and roadmap to recovery. The salon and beauty care industry was particularly hit by lockdown last year as it relies on physical touch meaning many salons remained closed for longer than other retail outlets.
“Our business operates on human touch and 40% of our cost is people or people-related,” Lakme Lever’s CEO Pushkaraj Shenai said at the summit.
“When we were told that touch is bad, people have to keep distance and our revenues were down to zero, it shook the fundamentals of our business.”
The Retail Leadership Summit 2021 was organised by the Retailers Association of India and ran from February 24 to 26. The summit covers numerous industries and aims to forecast trends and facilitate networking.
