Amazon India has got into a partnership with the Bihar Khadi and Village Industries Board to help weavers from the state sell their products on its e-commerce platform.
The company signed a memorandum of understanding with the government which will enable khadi weavers from the state to expand their reach across the country.
Amazon will provide digital support to the weavers and help take their products like sarees, shirts, men’s kurtas, and women’s kurtis among others online. The company is optimistic about this partnership as it feels that there is great demand for khadi products in the urban areas.
Commenting on the partnership, Bihar Industries Minister Jai Kumar Singh in a statement said: “Through this partnership, Bihar Khadi & Village Industries Board and Amazon India intend to empower and generate livelihood opportunities and additional income for the rural weavers. This partnership will further support the digital journey for these artisans, expand their reach and boost employment for the sector.”
Gopal Pillai director seller services Amazon India added: “To help sellers, weavers and artisans to embrace online selling and expand their business and to support the surge in demand for khadi products, we are very happy to partner with Bihar Khadi & Village Industries Board to take these products to millions of our customers.”
The Khadi and Village Industries Board in Bihar had earlier signed a MoU with a private textile business to retail the region’s handloom textiles under the brand ‘Bihar Khadi’.
