BigBasket to officially launch express online deliveries
Fast moving consumer goods retailer BigBasket plans to launch express online delivery, as fast as one hour in some areas, as the business expands its omni-channel services following its recent investment from Tata Digital.
BigBasket is working towards offering express online deliveries over the next few months to compete in an increasingly popular space, ET Tech reported. Tata Group’s Tata Digital recently invested $1.2 billion in BigBasket to acquire a majority stake in the business and BigBasket will offer express delivery through this partnership.
BigBasket had previously experimented with express delivery but later pulled back. With the backing of Tata Digital, the business will expand its logistics to enable it to offer express deliveries.
“This time it's very clear- thanks to our experience, the focus is on setting up dark stores, bringing inventory and warehouse closer to the customer and making sure the cold chain works better and faster and fresh produce can be delivered with ease,” said BigBasket co-founder Hari Menon on ‘The Rundown by ETtech’, a weekly audio chat show on Twitter Spaces.
BigBasket also plans to offer regional language options online to help it to reach more customers. As BigBasket is now owned by Tata Digital, the latter is gearing up to launch a ‘super app’ to offer e-commerce across a wide range of categories later in the year. For the time being, the business’ intend to keep BigBasket as an independent company, according to Menon.
