Berluti introduced Mumbai’s high-end shoppers to its signature leather tattooing technique with the event hosted at Soho House, the new private members club in Juhu, Mumbai. The brand presented a collection of footwear as well as belts, handbags, and other small leather goods.

The “tattooed leather” style that Berluti has pioneered involves tattooing a hide with a regular tattoo machine and ink designed to sit well in leather. The designs Berluti has created have four main themes, American tradition tattoo designs such as eagles, classic style animals, Chinese Zodiac inspired designs, and calligraphy. The designs are tattooed onto the Venezia leather that Berluti uses for its accessory line, as selected by the brand’s previous head Olga Berluti.

The brand currently retails in India from DLF Emporio mall in New Delhi and is currently looking for a location to open at in Mumbai.

Berluti was founded in 1895 by the Italian designer Alessandro Berluti and the brand is now based in Paris. Acquired by the LVMH Group in 1993, the brand went on to acquire the French clothing brand Arny’s and launched its first ready-to-wear collection in 2012. Kris Van Assche will debut his first collection for the label in January 2019.
