Dhawal Mane has organised what he has termed Bengaluru’s largest clothing swap event yet as part of Fashion Revolution Week, a global initiative to promote sustainable fashion. The week also commemorates the anniversary of the April 24 Rana Plaza factory collapse that claimed the lives of over 1,000 garment workers.

According to Mane, if a garment is work for double the amount of times as it normally would be, its carbon footprint will be reduced by 44 percent. In order to achieve this, Mane asserts that swapping clothing will help consumers to make more sustainable choices.

The Clothing Swap will take place at Lahe Lahe, in Bengaluru’s Indiranagar district and is open to the public. Similar events will also take place across the world in cities such as New York, Miami, and Sydney in collaboration with the global organisation GFX. If successful, the event could spread throughout India’s metros.

Mane has stated that participants are expected to bring clean and ironed clothing and a team of volunteers will check garments to make sure that they are up to the standard. Garments that are left over will be donated to charity.
