Belstaff finds new CEO

In July, Gavin Haig will replace Reinhard Mieck at Belstaff, the brand owned by Labelux Group (Bally, Jimmy Choo). Mieck, also CEO of Labelux, temporarily filled the position following the surprise departure of Harry Slatkin, the architect behind Belstaff’s luxury lifestyle rebranding, in July 2013.

Slatkin left Belstaff last year while retaining a small stake in its capital, as did Tommy Hilfiger, who was named a business consultant during the 2012 relaunch, which, according to Reuters, has not yet lived up to expectations.

Harry Slatkin oversaw heavy investment by Belstaff, founded in 1924, in transforming itself into a contemporary luxury home brand, all the while retaining its motorcycling roots. During that time, it commissioned Ewan McGregor, for example, to appear in an ambitious advertising campaign and more recently recruited David Beckham as ambassador.

Martin Cooper, the brand’s creative director who was poached from Burberry, will continue to work at the label’s London design studio despite rumors to the contrary.
