Beiersdorf boosted by emerging markets in second quarter

FRANKFURT, Aug 7, 2007 (AFP) - Beiersdorf, the German maker of Nivea hand cream, published results for the second quarter on Tuesday that were given pep by strong performances in emerging markets and North America.

Net profit was up 69 percent to 93 million euros (128 million dollars) on sales of 1.46 billion euros, which showed a 9.7 percent rise.

New products, including a Nivea range for men, helped turnover in the division responsible for the principal consumer products to rise 10 percent to 1.25 billion euros.

Sales for the adhesives arm, Tesa, were up seven percent to 211 million euros.

Investors were encouraged by the results. In trading in Frankfurt at 0750 GMT, shares were up 3.11 percent to 50.43 euros on an MDax index which was up 1.47 percent.
