Beauty Palace looks east, opens first store in Kolkata

Beauty Palace, a cosmetics retailer for both business to business (B2B) and business to customer (B2C) beauty products, is expanding into East India and plans on taking advantage of the largely unorganised market in Kolkata.

Beauty Palace is a subsidiary of the Bhamla Group and, on March 5, opened its first store in Kolkata. The Kolkata store launch, however, is just the beginning of Beauty Palace’s brick and mortar expansion plans. The brand aims to total 30 store openings across the country by 2025.

The new Kolkata store boasts 2,400 square feet of retail space for cosmetics and 1,200 square feet dedicated to beauty salon furniture. At the store opening, Bhamla Group’s Marketing Director Rayed Merchant said: “Upon our survey we realised Kolkata has a big market for cosmetic and beauty products, but it is largely unorganised. We realised, if we offer a complete solution under one roof, it will be a win-win situation for the buyers and for us as a seller.”

The brand sees great potential in the East Indian beauty market and aims to tap into this. “After Kolkata, we want to spread our wings to cities like Siliguri, Guwahati and Bhubaneshwar in east India,” said Merchant. “The buyers from the eastern region would no longer need to travel to Mumbai or Delhi, as they can get 1,00,000 products from across the country and the globe at Beauty Palace.”

Beauty Palace, founded in 1987, currently has three retail outlets in Mumbai at Crawford Market, Andheri, and Oshiwada. Following the Kolkata store opening, new outlets in Delhi and Chennai are next in line. The brand is part of the Bhamla Group which is also present in Africa, the Middle East, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka and has eight private label beauty brands.
