Beacon technology is most commonly used in the retail field but hotels and airlines among others are also increasingly using the technology. In the business to business arena beacons are used in trade shows and corporate lobbies. In India, the technology is primarily being used by many small businesses to make buying faster and easier as the market is headed by the company Beacon. In this way, the roll out of Beacon technologies is exciting news for retail businesses in fashion as now those in smaller cities will also be able to have access to the same technologies as those in the main metropolitan hubs.

The Co-founder and Director of Beacon, Abhinav Jain, said that, “With the expansion, retailers in 50 cities will be able to ensure accurate on-shelf availability of products that their customers wish to purchase and do this while enhancing margins for the last-mile retailer”. He also stated that he foresees domain expansion in the near future.

Beacon’s other Co-founder, Mayank Premi explained that, “Our endeavour is to help brands connect swiftly and directly with retailers across the nation” as the app measures the retailers’ customer demands and makes it easier for brands to see this demand and to respond to it. Brands can expand their market reach to smaller businesses and those businesses can keep on top of their stock and increase their profit margins.

As Beacon will be expanding into more non-metro cities, they have created a team of agents to assist with queries concerning the app’s algorithms and with translating the data they provide into practical decisions. These agents will offer phone support which may be needed as retailers get to grips with this new technology.
