"We are aggressively penetrating into the footwear markets of tier III and IV towns and have increased our focus to improve the performance of the single town Bata stores," company Chairman Uday Khanna was quoted as saying by a news agency.

India’s leading footwear brand, Bata did exceedingly well as its financial results for the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2017 show a turnover and net profit stood at Rs 598.0 crore (approx $93 million) and Rs 35.9 crore (approx $5.5 million), respectively.

The company is now further looking to accelerate its growth by tapping the smaller cities currently dominated by the domestic players.

"A majority of our population is still living in rural areas and we wish to seize this opportunity by rapidly increasing our presence," Khanna added.

Bata India is the largest footwear retailer in India, offering footwear, accessories and bags across brands like Bata, Hush Puppies, Naturalizer, Power, Marie Claire, Weinbrenner, North Star, Scholl, Bata Comfit and Bubblegummers to name a few. It retails in over 1,265 Bata stores, on bata.in and in thousands of multi-brand footwear dealer stores pan-India.
