British country label Barbour has announced Scottish actor Sam Heughan as its first Global Brand Ambassador.

The 36-year old actor is the lead actor in the hit international TV series Outlander. In 2015 he won the Favorite British Artist of the Year award by the Anglophile Channel and was nominated for the Saturn Award to the Best Actor on Television by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films in 2016.

He was chosen to become Barbour's first brand ambassador for his love of the outdoors and his upbringing in Galloway, which is only a short distance from founder John Barbour’s farm.

In addition to collaborating with Barbour on photoshoots and appearances, Heughan will design a capsule collection featuring Barbour’s exclusive tartans.

“Being Scottish, I grew up with the brand and have always been a big fan - being born in the same rural area as John Barbour, in the south of Scotland,” said Sam Heughan.

“I have a great passion for the company and their employees that feels more like I've been welcomed into their extended family. I very much look forward to designing my own capsule collection based on this ethos and to representing the brand in the UK, the US and internationally.”

Barbour has 10 standalone retail stores in the UK and a presence in over 40 countries worldwide, including the United States, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, France, Spain, Italy, Argentina, New Zealand and Japan.
