Bangalore Times Fashion Week is the first Indian fashion week to hold an audition specifically for transgender models as it aims to create an inclusive and diverse atmosphere at its upcoming event. The audition will take place on May 25 at the Prasad Bidapa Institute in Bengaluru. The open casting call hopes to find new faces for the fashion week from the transgender community.

The initiative was created in support of the Times Out and Proud campaign which was launched on May 17, the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.

The upcoming Bangalore Times Fashion Week will join other fashion weeks such as Lakmé Fashion Week in welcoming transgender models. The first transgender model to walk the runway in India was Nepali model Anjali Lama who participated in Lakme Fashion Week in 2017 and has gone on to feature in numerous campaigns, including for global brand Calvin Klein, and runway shows.
