Antonin Tron is a busy man. He showed for the first time at the Paris Fashion Week on Thursday 2nd March, in a small venue within the chic Marais district. Tron, 32, must at any rate have had precious little time to savour the joy of his maiden show, since he will have had to make a swift exit after the event to go and showcase his work in front of the jury of the LVMH Prize, in which he is one of the semi-finalists vying for a place in the final.

He was also sure to turn up at Balenciaga, where he works alongside Creative Director Demna Gvasalia, with whom he shared his studies at the Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts, from which he graduated in 2008.

Antonin Tron launched his solo career in March 2016 by founding his own women's ready-to-wear label, Atlein, but in the last ten years this former literature student has worked for some top fashion labels, from Raf Simons, home of his post-degree internship, to Louis Vuitton Homme, Givenchy and eventually Balenciaga.

For his own label, Antonin Tron has chosen an enigmatic name, Atlein, blending in equal parts a reference to the Atlantic ocean, where he loves to surf, and the sharp sound of German vowels. Atlein’s first collection, for AW 2016, immediately caught the eye of a group of inquisitive buyers, who let themselves be seduced by its dresses at once simple and sophisticated, highly feminine yet practical, allowing great freedom of movement.

His fabric of choice is jersey, which he uses in all its versions and formats, creating overlays, wraps, pleats and other constructions. His unique expertise was soon spotted by the industry, and before entering the LVMH Prize, Atlein won the First Collection Prize at ANDAM last July.

After this, it was easy for the designer, whose offices are located within the premises of the French ready-to-wear federation in Paris, to win a place on the local Fashion Week calendar.

On the day of the presentation of Atlein's second collection, the label is already available at some fifteen retailers, notably in the USA (Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Ikram, The Webster), in Italy (Antonia in Milan), in France at the Galeries Lafayette department store, in South Korea at Boon and online on Net-A-Porter.
