Asics signs Bajrang Punia to promote its wrestling range in India
Japanese sports giant Asics has entered the wrestling shoes and apparel segment by signing wrestler Bajrang Punia to endorse the new range for the brand in the country.
Asics had earlier signed Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar as their first brand ambassadors for the Indian market.
The company had stated that it will ramp up its offerings by adding new products to tap the booming sports market in India and its association with wrestler Punia looks a move in that direction.
Asics witnesses strong sales from its wrestling products in other international markets and looking to replicate it in India with the popularity of Punia in India.
Speaking on the brand association, Rajat Khurana, managing director, Asics India in a statement said, "We are extremely delighted to bring on board India's most promising wrestler, Bajrang Punia, as an Asics athlete. Wrestling has always been a focus for the brand globally and this association is an extension of the brand's ''I Move Me'' campaign. In India, this marks our entry into the sport of wrestling."
Bajrang Punia added: "I am extremely happy to be associated with Asics as their athlete. Being an Asics athlete gives me the pleasure of working with a brand that I absolutely love and have been using since the start of my journey as an athlete.”
Asics considers India as an important market for growth and had recently strengthened its online presence with the launch of its exclusive website for the Indian market. It also plans to add around 20 new stores during the current fiscal.
