Japanese sportswear brand Asics is planning to strengthen its retail presence in India with the addition of 25 new stores over the next two years.

Despite the Covid-19 disruptions, Asics has witnessed a surge in the overall demand for its products especially through the e-commerce channel, and expects strong sales going forward on the back of its retail expansion coupled with relaxations of Covid-19 restrictions across the country.
“The company has added six stores in the country so far this year and will add nine more by the end of the year. In 2022, we plan to add about 17 stores. We now have a strong presence in the metros and tier 1 cities. So, most of the expansion is happening in tier 2 and tier 3 markets,” Rajat Khurana, managing director at Asics India, told Businessline.
“In 2019, the e-commerce channel’s share to total revenues stood at about 20 percent and in 2020 this share increased to 35 percent. The e-commerce channel has been growing by leaps and bounds for us. We believe, by the end of this year, this share will increase to over 40 percent,” he added.
Asics entered the Indian market in 2015 and currently has over 55 stores across the country and sells on leading e-commerce platforms.
