The sales increase recorded by the Japanese sports outfitter, which hasn't provided detailed figures, was mainly lead by its running and tennis products, and by the Asics Tiger lifestyle category brand.

Sales for Asics running shoes grew 15% globally, with women's shoes up 18%. "Data supplied by the NPD Sports Tracking group confirm that Asics is the fastest growing brand in the women's running market, among competitive runners in particular," the brand stated.

As for tennis, the brand topped the ranking in Italy from the third quarter, while remaining leader in the shoes category in France, Germany and Spain. Asics also recorded a 41% rise in tennis accessories and a 16% growth in tennis shoes sales. In the lifestyle segment, Asics Tiger has achieved triple-digit growth after its relaunch earlier in 2015.

In the period in question, rugby also allowed Asics to gain visibility, as Alistair Cameron, CEO of Asics Europe, has underlined: "The third quarter was dominated by the Rugby World Cup 2015, in which the Wallabies and the Springboks - wearing our high-tech kit - established Asics as the leading brand in world rugby, expanding our increasing reputation, while sales have grown around Asics rugby products."

Finally, sales in the brand's directly-owned stores increased by 26%.
