Asics expands retail presence with first store in Kolkata

Japanese sportswear major Asics has expanded its retail footprint in the country by entering a new market in the East Indian city of Kolkata.

The new store is located at the South City Mall and will offer a wide range of running, training and core performance sports shoes, apparel and accessories for men and women.
 
Asics is looking to open more fully owned company stores in India especially in tier 1 and tier 2 cities over the next few months.

Commenting on the new launch, Rajat Khurana, managing director of Asics India in a statement said, “Given the potential and growing demand for fitness and sports, India has emerged as an important market for Asics. This year, our focus is to expand our footprint in both tier 1 and tier 2 cities and offer our best in class products ranging from running, sports, for the gym and other fitness-related gear.
 
“Kolkata is a very key market for us considering the large audience for sports and fitness in this market. We are hopeful that our products designed keeping core performance in mind will be able to cater to the needs of sports and fitness lovers in the city,” he added.
 
The company is expecting to triple its revenue in the country to Rs 200 crore ($31 million) over the next three years.
 
Asics currently has 29 mono-brand stores and 300 multi-brand stores across metros and tier 1, 2 cities in India. The brand is also available on all leading e-commerce websites.
