Aseem Kapoor to make retail debut in Kanpur with Amiraah

Designer Aseem Kapoor will hold his first ever showcase in Kanpur for his eponymous label at multi-brand Indian fashion retailer Amiraah. The event will feature an exclusive presentation and a meet-and-greet with the designer himself. 

Aseem Kapoor will launch new womenswear collection ‘Ambi’ in Kanpur on April 13, Amiraah announced in a press release on April 11. Kapoor will share his inspirations for the collection with shoppers, who will have their first chance to browse the pieces in person. 
 
“The collection ‘Ambi for us is a tattered nostalgia of a vintage kanni jamevaar spliced with Byzantium jewels and aged metal yarns,” said Kapoor about the collection in a press release. “The story goes back to my mother’s inherited heirloom, rare woven Ambi tapestry, which we later stretched on a wooden frame and hung on the wall… As it aged, I saw it rotting and tearing apart… It made me question its state, while being in delicious ambiguity- of beauty or a ruin.”

Ambi features rich hues, layered textures, and Kapoor’s signature bohemian maximalist aesthetic. The collection plays with fusion style silhouettes including tailored trousers, kaftans, tunics, and culottes to create extravagant yet wearable looks. 
 
Luxury fashion boutique Amiraah was founded by entrepreneur Pooja Gupta to bring Indian designers to Uttar Pradesh. The boutique is spread across 5,000 square feet and features brands including Tarun Tahilani, AM-PM, Namrata Joshipura, Anushree Reddy, Kavita Bhartiya, and Joy Mitra among others.
