Asa Kazingmei shows luxurious leather at LFW

Asa Kazingmei presented a collection of his signature dystopian leather designs as part of Johnnie Walker’s Lakmé Fashion Week (LFW) showcase on day four of the event.

The runway show took place at the St Regis, Mumbai, and Kazingmei was part of the “Journey” showcase sponsored by Johnnie Walker and featuring designers known for their “explorer” inspiration. Kazingmei said he was inspired by “glamour” and “the power of creativity” for his collection which was characterised by edgy leather armour and modern punk styling.
Of his collection, Kazingmei wrote: “This collection has been inspired from many characters like the look of an ancient warriors, metal [and] punk which mainly focus of modern culture. Collectively made of such strong combination of many characters into one collection made me also feels powerful, wider in the range of ideas in construction and brings this into fashion world.”
The main colour of the collection was black and blood red accents were added along with silver metal details in the form of corset grommets and spikes. Both mens’ and womenswear featured in the collection. Corseted mini dresses were the main shape for women and tailored jeans with deconstructed jackets featured heavily for the men.
Asa Kazingmei graduated from INIFD Bandra Khar in 2008 and, after working for various designers, launched his eponymous label in 2012. Kazingmei also has his “Immortal” line which is inspired by the Naga people’s dress in his native land. The brand has a flagship store in Bandra West, Mumbai.
