Designer Anita Dongre has collaborated with Lenzing to create her spring/ summer 2019 ready-to-wear collection using its Tencel sustainable textile.

The upcoming Anita Dongre collection will be made from Lenzing’s raw wood textile Tencel - Lenzing- Facebook

For the upcoming edition of Lakmé Fashion Week (LFW) beginning on January 30, sustainable fashion pioneer Anita Dongre will showcase a collection using Tencel, a branded Lyocell fibre extracted from raw wood. The textile is made with a closed loop production system and is both biodegradable and compostable, making it an eco-friendly material.

Dongre has used this textile to create a collection that celebrates summer with floral prints, light and flowing silhouettes, and bright colours. The garments are designed for summer destination weddings and as resort wear.

Lenzing aims to create a long lasting relationship with the Anita Dongre brand through this collaborative collection. Along with her eponymous line, Dongre also runs the ready-to-wear brands Global Desi and Grassroot, which is also a sustainable brand. Dongre’s brand And also already uses Tencel textiles and the upcoming Global Desi collection will use another Lenzing textile called EcoVero.

Lenzing has collaborated with a number of designers, perhaps most notably with Rajesh Pratap Singh on a ready-to-wear line. The upcoming collaboration between Dongre and Lenzing will allow to former to pursue sustainable design and the latter, an Austrian business, to gain exposure in India.
