Following a day of shows by sustainable fashion brands, Anavila Misra showcased her eponymous brand’s autumn/winter collection on the runway using silk, loom linen, and khadi textiles to create the simple sarees she is known for.

Anavila the label follows fair trade practices and prioritises improving the lives of the artisans who work for the brand and for this reason it was part of Sustainable Fashion Day. The textiles are also mostly handwoven and use environmentally friendly methods.

The brand has been known for pastel and neutral hues but this season, Misra included black and dark colours in her designs to give them a seasonal feel. Moreover, Misra played around with the colour black in a softer and more romantic light than usual.

Show guests included the Bollywood celebrity Dia Mirza, who attended wearing an Anavila saree, and Kalki Koechlin who wore a floaty white dress by the designer. They sat in the front row alongside Tillotama Shome and Ira Dubey.

Anavila means “pure” in Sanskrit and was founded several years ago with the aim of using sustainable yet luxurious textiles to create unique garments, especially sarees. The label also makes homeware items and Anavila products are available in boutiques throughout India.
