Anamika Khanna celebrates heritage craft techniques at India Couture Week

Anamika Khanna launched her latest men’s and women’s couture collection with an emotive presentation that shone the spotlight on heritage craft techniques and her brand’s signature take on tradition.

 
Shot in a studio in Mumbai, Anamika Khanna’s fashion film for her latest collection was simple yet dynamic. Models danced around the space, which was filled with flowers, and their theatrical movements showcased the 360 degree details of Khanna’s opulent garments. 
 
Each meticulously crafted outfit featured Zardozi, thread-work, and pearls to crate tactile garments steeped in cultural tradition. A jewel-toned colour palette with neutrals and whites for contrast created a backdrop for the designer’s nature-inspired and decorative motifs. Khanna was not trying to reinvent the wheel, this season was all about gratitude for India’s diverse craft history and the fact that much of it is still alive to this day.

“There is an unnamed abstract force that felt around me when I observed what was happening during the pandemic, the worst crisis mankind has faced,” said Khanna about the collection’s inception, the Fashion Design Council of India reported. “It is a line that expresses gratitude to the cosmic energy.”
 
India Couture Week was organised by the Fashion Design Council of India association with the Hindustan Times and ran from August 23 to 29. The digital edition was the second online event held by India Couture Week since going online during the pandemic and this season featured 19 couture houses from across India.
