American Apparel has confirmed that Joseph Pickman, who started at the company last week, is the new head of the company's men's design department, charged with the task of revamping the men's division.

Pickson is a graduate of Parsons School of Design and was most recently the Men’s Design Director at Band of Outsiders, a position he held for over three years.

The appointment follows a slew of changes made at the company by CEO Paula Schneider, including the firing of Creative Director, Iris Alonzo, and designer, Marsha Brady in February, and the termination of 180 employees just last week. In February, the company named Thoryn Stephens Chief Digital Officer, a new position at the company, and hired former Perry Ellis International executive Cynthia Erland as Senior Vice President of Marketing.

The company hopes to elevate its men’s offering by updating its fits and its fabrics.
