Amazon to donate 100 ICU ventilator units to Indian hospitals

On April 27, Amazon announced that it will donate 100 ICU ventilator units to the Indian government for use in hospitals across the country and air lift them to India from the U.S.

“With the urgency of adding to the medical infrastructure and capacity for Indian hospitals fighting against Covid-19’s severe second spike, we decided to urgently source, import and donate 100 ventilators to hospitals to be identified by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India,” Amazon India’s vice president and country head, Amit Agarwal, said in a statement on Tuesday, ET Tech reported.  
 
Amazon has liaised with the MoHFW to identify ventilators with the correct technical specifications to be used in Indian hospitals. The business has thus chosen Medtronic’s PB980 model and will deliver 100 units in the coming two weeks. Amazon has partnered with Medtronic for the installation, maintenance, and training of personnel to will use the machines.

The e-commerce giant also announced that it is in the process of partnering with the Temasek Foundation, ACT Grants, and Pune Platform for Covid-19 Response among other organise the airlifting of 8,000 oxygen concentration and 500 Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP) machines from Singapore to India.
