Singapore-based Amazon Corporate Holdings Pvt. Ltd. invested around Rs 1,459.93 crore as a part of the current round while the Mauritius-based Amazon.com.incs Ltd invested another Rs 6.74 lakh in the Indian unit, Businessline reported citing regulatory filings with the corporate affairs ministry accessed by business intelligence platform Tofler.

The company will utilise the funds to strengthen its market presence in India by acquiring new customers, onboarding sellers to its platform coupled with development of infrastructure facilities.

The investment is expected to give Amazon the financial ammunition required to take on e-commerce biggies like Walmart-owned Flipkart, Reliance, and Paytm.

Earlier this month, Amazon’s payments unit in India, Amazon Pay had received a capital infusion of Rs 1,000 crore ($134.4 million) from its parent company Amazon Corporate Holdings.

Amazon has on-boarded more than 300,000 over the last one year and claims to have helped Indian MSMEs export $1 billion in shipments in the past 12 months under its ‘Global Selling’ programme.
