The sale, which will run into October ahead of the Diwali festival, saw over 10 lakh unique products sold by small and medium businesses and startups during its first 36 hours. Amazon India opened up its sale event one day early for its Prime customers and had previously stated that one of the main objectives of the sale is customer acquisition. Prime member sign-ups increased by 1.9 times compared to last year as shoppers rushed to have early access to the sale. Moreover, 68% of the total Prime signups were from Tier 2 and 3 cities.

“It is encouraging to witness small and medium businesses, startups, artisans, women entrepreneurs offer a wide selection of products to our customers across India,” said Amazon’s vice president and country manager for its Indian Consumer Business Manish Tiwary, ET Bureau reported.
