Launched in India in 2015, Amazon’s GSP witnessed a rise in the number of sellers from 20,000 to 27,000 sellers last year and that is one of the reasons for the surge in sales.

In its first annual export report, ‘Export Digest 2017’, Amazon also said that it shipped over 90 million products from India to customers in countries like the US, Mexico, Spain and Japan.

“India is in a unique position where sellers are seeing growth in their business, whether they serve domestic or international markets (through GSP). India has immense manufacturing strength in categories like clothing, leather products, gems and jewellery that account for the majority of demand abroad,” Amazon India GM and Director (Seller Services) Gopal Pillai said in a statement.

In the last calendar year, Amazon witnessed 80 percent growth in its seller base with its unique seller acquisition strategies like feet on street teams, self-service registration, Chai Cart and Tatkal.

Interestingly, Amazon has managed to get on board sellers from across the country, especially the tier 2, tier 3 cities which are expected to strengthen the firm’s pan Indian presence and help compete with other rival e-commerce firms like Flipkart and Paytm.

Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kolkata top the charts as cities with most exporters while smaller cities like Indore, Surat, Ahmedabad, Ghaziabad and Pune also have large number of sellers that use Amazon’s GSP to reach customers globally.
