Amazon India remains committed to expansion in India and has the highest number of job vacancies in the country compared to any other it operates in. The business also aims to expand beyond e-commerce into other areas.

Amazon India has almost 1,300 job vacancies in India

India has the most Amazon job vacancies, almost three times that of China, according to data on the business’ website. With the most vacancies in the Asia-Pacific region, worldwide only Germany matches India for recruitment. This shows the US-based business’ desire to continue to expand in the country.

With 1,286 job openings in India, Amazon hopes to expand beyond its core business of online marketplace and cloud business. Areas Amazon India is interested in expanding into include payments, content with Prime Video, customer support, food retail, and voice-assistant with its Alexa product.

At the end of last year, there were around 60,000 Amazon India employees making up around ten percent of the business’ global workforce of 6.1 lakh workers. The business will hire the main part of its new employees in Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad.

Amazon India is using the fact that it employs many people in India to add weight to its ongoing discussions with the government on the recent foreign direct investment (FDI) policy clarification that calls into question the future of its business model in the country.

The new rules, which come into effect at the start of February, appears to ban private label brands which, especially in the fashion segment, make up a significant part of both Amazon and Flipkart’s business.

"With our constant growth, we are always looking for some exceptional talent across levels in areas of software development, product and marketing, machine learning, quality assurance, web development, product management, supply chain, content development, operations, studio and photography and for other positions in the India consumer business,” a company spokesperson told TNN.

“We have created thousands of skilled and semi-skilled jobs in India over the past decade."
