Amazon India is in the process of streamlining its operations

After announcing planned layoffs for its India workforce earlier in January, sources told TNN that Amazon plans to pay laid-off employees two months of salary as per their contractual agreement and pay an additional two months’ salary. Employees will receive exceptional payments based on the time they have spent working for the business.

According to a report by the Times of India last week, Amazon plans to lay off around 1,000 employees in India which constitutes around 1% of the business’ 1 lakh workforce in the country. The US-based business has announced planned lay offs in numerous countries and had offered voluntary redundancy to numerous employees at the end of last year, ET Bureau reported.

Amazon India is one of India’s largest e-commerce players and operates as a foreign-owned business which means it is subject to foreign direct investment regulations in India. The business competes with Walmart-owned Flipkart as well as local players including Reliance’s JioMart among others.
