Amazon opens its largest fulfilment centre in Karnataka

US e-commerce giant Amazon has strengthened its infrastructure and storage space with the addition of its largest fulfilment centre in Karnataka ahead of the upcoming festive season.

Located in the village near Attibele, Karnataka, the FC is spread over 3,50,000 square feet with close to 2 million cubic feet of storage space. With this launch, Amazon has increased its storage capacity by more than 150 percent since last year in Karnataka.
 
The FC is expected to create numerous skilling and employment opportunities for thousands of youth within the local communities in the region.

“In line with our commitment of making deep investments in the country and in turn creating opportunities for employment, we are excited to announce that we will be hiring close to 2000 contractual positions over the next year. These associates will help in augmenting our capabilities to serve our customers better and enable us to consistently deliver best in class customer experience,”  said Akhil Saxena, Vice President of Customer Fulfilment at Amazon India.
 
“With the launch of our largest fulfilment centre in Karnataka, we now have a storage capacity of close to 3.5 million cubic feet in the State. We strongly believe that we will be able to better serve our customers with one-day & two-day delivery. The FC will enable sellers to use the local infrastructure, save capital and help them grow,” Saxena added.
 
Amazon has stated that it will further scale up its infrastructure requirements to enable faster deliveries across the country and open up four more fulfilment centres in key markets this year to cater to the growing needs of the sellers.
