The company plans to further expand its seller base in the region through its ‘Local Shops’ initiative and offering 50% waiver on the selling fees to the new sellers registering on the platform from August 28 to October 26.

The fee waiver includes businesses of all sizes, including local stores, traditional weavers, artisans, women entrepreneurs, start-ups, and digital entrepreneurs.

Commenting on the initiative, Kshitij Jain, director external fulfilment at Amazon India in a statement said, “Over 9,000 sellers from the Northeastern region will have the opportunity to showcase their products to millions of customers across the country during Amazon’s Great Indian Festival, which will begin from September 23, 2022. We hope that this festive season will bring growth and success to all our sellers.”

“The company will continue to make investments in empowering sellers to scale up their business, catering to customers anywhere in India and the world using e-commerce. Last year, Amazon launched the Spotlight Northeast storefront, designed to boost the local economy, create jobs, accelerate financial inclusion, and empower women across the eight states of the region," he added.

Amazon India has been focusing on bringing small stores online through various programmes such as its ‘Local Shops on Amazon’ initiative which is designed to give neighbourhood stores in numerous Indian states the opportunity to integrate their offline services and retail online.
