On Sunday, Amazon announced that its India sellers will now be able to register on the platform and run their businesses in Marathi, with the aim of onboarding more local sellers in the Maharashtra region.

Amazon hopes to engage more businesses by expanding its language settings

As Amazon India aims to onboard more micro, small, and medium enterprises, it is continuing to expand its language options. By launching services in Marathi, the e-commerce business aims to reach new business demographics in cities including Nagpur, Nashik, Satara, Aurangabad, Solapur, and Kolhapur, among others.

“Language is a prominent barrier that Indian MSMEs face when they seek to leverage e-commerce to expand their business,” said Pranav Bhasin, Amazon India’s director for MSME and selling partner experience, the Press Trust of India reported.

“As we move to enable more micro, small and medium enterprises to embrace e-commerce, we remain committed to strengthening our vernacular, voice and video powered initiatives.”

The business had already launched seller services in Hindi, Kannada, and Tamil and, since then, over 50,000 users created accounts in those languages. The move to include a wider diversity of languages is part of Amazon India’s plan to digitise 10 million MSMEs by 2025, according to Bhasin.
