Amazon launches new 18-floor office space in Tamil Nadu

E-commerce giant Amazon opened a new 18-floor office space in Tamil Nadu on March 29 which will house 6,000 employees. The office is Amazon’s fourth in the state and takes its total office space to over 21 lakh square feet.

Amazon’s new Tamil Nadu office will house teams for its Amazon Web Services, customer support, technology, and engineering sectors. The teams will have a focus on research and development including for Amazon’s ‘Echo’ device, ET Tech reported.
 
The 6,000 jobs the new office will create will contribute towards the business’ target to create 20 lakh direct and indirect across India by the year 2025.

“This new office is to further strengthen our presence and participation by supporting the country's growth, creating employment opportunities and investing with a long term horizon,” said Amazon’s director of global real estate and facilities, Vinod Mathews, ET Bureau reported. 
 
“We believe that the launch of Amazon’s new office in Chennai will have a multiplier effect on the state economy,” said Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister MK Stalin as he inaugurated the office, ET Tech reported. “The expansion and investment will bind both the economic and social well-being of the state. We look forward to further investments by Amazon in Tamil Nadu focused on job creation and infrastructure expansion.”
