The Prime Day sale will begin at midnight on August 6 and will last till August 7. The company will be offering heavy discounts and expects to acquire new members during the sale event.

The sale event is expected to give sellers on the platform an opportunity to clear its inventory amid the Covid-19 disruptions.

“Prime Day is back again this year offering a unique opportunity for our members, to discover joy with a two-day event. We are super excited that members can start discovering joy early ahead of Prime Day and earn cashback every time they shop from tens of thousands of small businesses including local stores, karigars, and saheli entrepreneurs, while supporting their business in these challenging times,” Amit Agarwal, country manager of Amazon India, said in a statement.

Amazon had made its Prime Day debut in India in 2017 and currently sells its Prime membership first for Rs 129 ($1.7) per month and yearly package for Rs 999.

Amazon used to hold the Prime Day sale event across the globe on the same day. However, due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the e-tailer for the first time has globally split the event for different countries.
