To further expand its delivery options, Amazon India has joined forces with Eastern Railways and will open an order pick-up kiosk in Kolkata’s Sealdah railway station following a pilot programme around Mumbai.
Amazon India’s new Kolkata kiosk will allow commuters to pick up packages from the e-commerce platform at the train station. Amazon piloted the concept at four train stations in Mumbai last year and, on finding it a success, will start to roll out the delivery option, the business announced in a media release.
“As a customer-obsessed company, we are constantly leveraging our resources and technology to build initiatives which are grounded in customer convenience,” said Amazon India’s director for Amazon Logistics, Prakash Rochlani, ET Bureau reported.
“The learnings from our pick-up kiosks across Mumbai has helped us build our partnership with Eastern Railways to provide another pick-up option for customers in Kolkata as well."
As Amazon continues to expand its delivery options in India, the new kiosk will added to the list of delivery options customers can select when ordering online.
Amazon India has also augmented its delivery options recently by pledging to add around 10,000 electric vehicles, designed and manufactured in India, to its logistics network by 2025.
The business has also recently promised to create one million new jobs in India following disparaging remarks by government officials concerning its recent pledge to invest $1 billion (Rs 6,652.8 crore) in India.
