Amazon cancels AWS Summit scheduled for Mumbai

Amazon India has cancelled its Amazon Web Services Summit in Mumbai previously scheduled to run from April 8 to 9 at the Bombay Convention Centre due to concerns over coronavirus.

Amazon’s upcoming annual AWS Summit, which is designed to bring together businesses, decision makers and technical users to discuss and learn how to use Amazon’s web services, has been postponed, the business announced on its website. Amazon stated on its website that it is “thrilled with the response from our customers” and assured that it plans to organise a follow-up event when possible.
 
“Our top priority is the wellbeing of our customers, partners and employees,” wrote Amazon in a statement. “After a careful review of the current situation with Covid-19 and listening to the guidance provided by the local authorities, Amazon Web Services regrets to announce that we have made the decision to cancel the AWS Summit Mumbai 2020, which was scheduled for 8 and 9 April at Bombay Exhibition Center, Mumbai.”

A large number of business events in Mumbai and New Delhi have recently been cancelled following the progression of the coronavirus outbreak in India. The India Fintech Festival in Mumbai and Fashion Design Council of India’s India Fashion Week in New Delhi were both recently postponed until further notice following official statements. 
 
On March 12, India reported its first coronavirus death, Gulf News reported, followed by the BBC. The country’s total cases stood at 81 on March 13.
