E-commerce major Amazon India will be strengthening its fleet of delivery vehicles in the country by adding around 10,000 electric vehicles (EVs) by 2025.

The fleet of 10,000 EVs will include three-wheeler and four-wheeler vehicles that have been designed and manufactured by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in India - Amazon India

Amazon has already piloted its electric vehicles in several cities across India in 2019 and now looking to expand its fleet of electric vehicles in the coming years.

The fleet of 10,000 EVs will include three-wheeler and four-wheeler vehicles that have been designed and manufactured by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in India.

This year, Amazon plans to operate these vehicles for its deliveries in over 20 cities of India like Delhi NCR, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Pune, Nagpur, and Coimbatore, among others.

“At Amazon India, we are committed to building a supply chain that will minimise the environmental impact of our operations. The company will continue to invest in electrification of its delivery fleet, thereby reducing its dependence on non-renewable resources,” Akhil Saxena Amazon’s vice president customer fulfillment said in a statement.

“Amazon India has been working with several Indian OEMs to build a fleet of vehicles that ensure sustainable and safe deliveries of customer orders. The government’s focus to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles in the country, and steps towards setting up of charging infrastructure with the FAME 2 policy has helped the company accelerate and chart its vision for EVs in India,” the statement added.

Amazon had recently announced an investment of $1 billion (Rs 7,000 crore) for digitising small and medium businesses. It also promised to create 1 million jobs in India by 2025.
