Amazon India signs MoU with Gujarat government to boost exports

E-commerce major Amazon India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Gujarat to help boost exports from the state.

With this MoU, Amazon will onboard sellers from the state of Gujarat on its global selling platform and give them an opportunity to sell their products to Amazon customers in over 200 countries across the globe.
 
Amazon will also offer training to the exporters to help them sell online on the platform and expects them to scale rapidly to build sustainable exports businesses.

Commenting on the initiative, Vijay Rupani, hon’ble chief minister of Gujarat in a statement said: “Gujarat has vibrant gems and jewellery, apparel, textiles, and handicraft sector which is held together by lakhs of MSMEs. One of our key priorities has been to boost exports from Gujarat and through this partnership with Amazon, we aim to empower lakhs of MSMEs in Gujarat to embrace e-commerce exports.”
 
Abhijit Kamra, director of global trade at Amazon India added: “This partnership with the Government of Gujarat is a step towards elevating lakhs of MSMEs from across the state to a global level.”
 
Amazon India claims to have helped over 70,000 Indian sellers and small businesses from its global selling initiative to generate sales of around $2 billion to date and expects goods worth $10 billion to be exported from India by 2025.
