Amazon India sees strong festive season sales, 30,000 sellers clock GMV worth lakhs

E-commerce major Amazon India witnessed strong sales during its month-long flagship event ‘Great Indian Festival’ with 70 percent of sellers selling their products to customers in non-metro cities.

Amazon claimed that around 30,000 sellers on the platform sold gross merchandise value (GMV) worth lakhs on its platform, while 12 sellers became millionaires during the flagship event.
 
Sellers part of its ‘Local Shops’ programme registered almost two-fold growth this festive sale as compared to last year.

Commenting on the sale event, Manish Tiwary, vice president at Amazon India, in a statement said: “We are truly humbled to see how this festive season has brought joy to lakhs of sellers on Amazon with many becoming lakhpatis and crorepatis. We also witnessed great participation from over 360,000 micro and small enterprise buyers on Amazon Business this festive season. We take pride in being a part of their growth journey while enabling them to get back on track.”
 
Amazon said that customers from 99.7 percent pin codes shopped during the month-long festival with 79 percent of new customers coming from tier 2, 3 cities.
 
Amazon Great Indian Festival sale began on 2 October and will continue till 2 November.
