Amazon India aims to link up with kirana stores everywhere from metros to small villages and reach a total of 9.3 lakh kirana partners by 2025, the business announced in a statement, TNN reported. These partnerships will enable the business to speed up last-mile delivery services and reach customers in wider locations.

“From the current 75,000 kirana stores across 450 cities, we are going to increase it to around 10 lakh by 2025,”said Amazon India’s vice president Manish Tiwary in a statement, TNN reported.
“We are raising speed and last-mile delivery by giving more options to buyers and sellers.”

Another way Amazon India is working to reach shoppers in more rural areas is by expanding its regional language and voice shopping services to enable customers who speak local languages or do not read to be able to shop on the platform. The business currently offers nine Indian language options on its shopping app and two language options for voice shopping.

“We currently have 85% customers in small cities, which was 60% just two years back,” said Tiwary, illustrating increasing rural demand.

“We have around 58,000 Amazon Easy stores, where any new buyer can just walk in to be hand-held by trained shopkeepers,” said Tiwary about initiatives to encourage people to order online.
“Newbies can have touch and feel product experience through a physical product buy-cum-delivery display.”
