Amazon India has forged another government partnership, this time with the Director General of Resettlement to provide employment to military veterans, as the US business continues to seek partnerships with the Union Government.

Amazon India plans to provide jobs for military veterans

Amazon India’s latest government partnership is with the office of the DGR and the Army Welfare Placement Organisation and will see it create employment opportunities for ex-military personnel and their spouses at the company. Jobs will be created for the military veterans across Amazon’s fulfilment, sorting, and delivery centres which it is currently expanding throughout India.

Amazon has also recently partnered with the Railway Board to pilot a project where the e-commerce platform transports its goods on two of the national transport service’s trains. The foreign direct investment backed business is demonstratively showing its support for government initiatives.

“Over the years, we have hired military veterans into various roles across the company – in transportation, customer fulfilment, facilities management and security operations, to name a few,” said Amazon’s vice president of Asia operations, Akhil Saxena, as reported by ET Bureau. “This program formalises our efforts and will help create hundreds of career opportunities for military families who have served the country.”

Participants in the program will be called “Amazon Warriors” and will be trained for positions such as managers and directors as well as leaders of delivery and fulfilment stations. The programme also ties into the business’ global commitment to military veterans and it will concurrently conduct a global hiring drive for them.
