Amazon India plans to gradually increase its customer support services across the country with its latest hiring drive, TNN reported. Most of the people Amazon will hire will work from home in locations approved by the business.

The workers will be part of Amazon’s ‘virtual customer service’ section and will support both Indian customers, as well as those from its other global e-commerce stores. The seasonal jobs will pay between Rs 15,000 ($198.51) and Rs 20,000 a month and people will be hired for between three and six months, a source involved in the hiring process told TNN.

The business had already announced in May that it was looking for 50,000 seasonal workers for its supply chain and delivery network. The 20,000 employees will be hired on top of this. Amazon India expects increased website traffic in the coming half a year, especially around the Indian and US festive seasons, and aims to meet the demand through increasing its workforce.

On June 27, Amazon India held a ‘Small Business Day’ sale event, promoting over four crore products from small Indian businesses.

The event was designed especially to promote women-run and artisan-run businesses, Amazon announced on Facebook. The e-commerce site also recently held a clothing sale and is promoting its digital payments service for bill payments.
