Alpana Neeraj presented a refined womenswear collection which contrasted soft, sheer textiles with formal elements and geometric structures on Wednesday, day one of Fashion Design Council of India x Lakmé Fashion Week.

The collection brought to mind the idea of ‘modern ethereal’ with structured bodices paired with sheer skirts and soft hues mixed with sharp tailoring. Notable looks included a sheer jumpsuit with appliqué patterns and an all white, sheer ensemble featuring an oversized bow and circular lacy details. The collection’s colour palette of white, peach, black, and mint green added a touch of subtlety to the designs and made them wearable.

Design duo Alpana Mittal and Neeraj Chauhan were inspired by skincare this season. “Our design philosophy has always been known to being unapologetic and effortlessly fluid,” said Mittal and Chauhan in a joint statement before the show. “With the #LitWithLumi show, the collection will retain our core drapes and yet will see an evolution in functionality, as a progression in style post pandemic.”

FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week launched on March 23 and runs until March 27 at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium at India Gate in New Delhi, its first edition at this venue. Physical runway shows are also broadcast live on the organisers’ respective websites and social media accounts this season.
