Designer Anamika Khanna’s subsidiary Ak-Ok -- led by her sons Viraj and Vishesh Khanna -- has launched its second collection as an online exclusive and plans to step into accessories, art, and home décor in the future.

The ready-to-wear line, which is more experimental and youthful than Anamika Khanna’s eponymous flagship brand, has gone online this season with a limited-edition collection in reaction to the ongoing pandemic. The collection is based on Viraj Khanna’s own collages and art created during lockdown, which have been printed and painted on garments for a unique effect.

The collection includes kimonos, bomber jackets, printed sweatshirts, and translucent jackets featuring expressionist, abstract designs. The aesthetic is bold and arty with nods to the ethnic wear elegance seen in the brand’s main line designs. Silhouettes are relaxed to keep the emphasis on the textiles and colours and also fit the bill for clothes to wear when staying at home, as most shoppers currently are.

“The whole collection is created keeping in mind the lockdown and the inability to have huge gatherings,” Viraj Khanna told Elle India about the collection.

“The idea was to give people something to wear everyday at home or while hosting a small group of people at home. Elaborate dressing has temporarily taken a pause because of the pandemic. This gave us an opportunity to create a new collection that would provide people with what they need at the moment.”

The collection has launched online on the brand’s new website and is available for order for a limited time. The brand is also preparing to greatly expand its product selection.

“Ak-Ok is an extension of Anamika Khanna,” said Viraj Khanna. “It is a platform which we will use to experiment and explore everything! We are going to launch accessories, bags, shoes and paintings as well in the future. Once the pandemic ends, we plan to get into the realms of home decor and everything else that is Ak-Ok.”
